Many of to-days tattoo artists have had formal art training and have also served a lengthy apprenticeship with another tattooist, but beware the scratcher. A scratcher is an untrained tattooist who has decided to share his dangerous talent with the world and his wife. A scratcher may work out of a studio, but he often operates on a mobile basis or in the back room of his flat or house. He rarely bothers about sterilization or changing needles between clients and has often bought equipment by mail order and has no idea how to use it! There is then the tattooist who has scraped enough money together to open his own studio and is operating under"" sterile conditions but the tattoos that they apply are very badly done with outlines running from thick to thin, colours which are patchy and badly chosen and raised scar tissue forming because the tattoo has been put too deep into the skin. You are responsible for choosing a professional who is capable of puffing a wonderful piece of artwork on your skin. You are also responsible for choosing a design thaf you will be happy wifh for the rest of your life. Getting a tattoo is the most permanent commitment many of us make and if you are thinking 'I can always get it covered or removed', you are not ready or mature enough to be having a tattoo. |
